On September 10th, Lafayette Fire Company was dispatched for a reported building fire at the Historic Conestoga Inn Restaurant. Units arrived with a working fire in the duct work and some in the roof. This call is somewhat bittersweet as one of my long time friends passed away in the line of duty 15 days later while conducting a live burn

On October 31st, my department was dispatched to assist Blue Rock Fire/Rescue on a gas leak. About 90 minutes into it, an explosion destroyed a house and what was the former John Herrs Market in Millersville.

Back on September 11th, I participated in the 9/11 stair climb that was held in Lancaster. I am walking with 2 members of my department. I am carrying the helmet of a friend of mine who was a retired career shift commander for Springettsbury Township Fire and about 2 weeks prior to this, had passed away from cancer. I climbed 110 stories in 59 minutes. Not too bad I thought, I plan on doing it in full gear next year

This past Saturday I took my son to the annual Harrisburg Irish Day Parade in the Capital City. Weather was a little chilly, but overall it was nice.

Later on that evening, I talked to Brad and I came up to the station and visited with him and Brian Bastinell(Of Brian Bastinelli photography) We were sitting in the kitchen talking when we found out about a large fire in Reading PA in a warehouse. Did not think too much of it, was on my way home when a friend called me and told me he was heading up to get photos and he had a friend on the scene still confirming heavy fire. So I decided to go up and this is what I saw..

A 51,000 square foot 3 story vacant furniture warehouse, well off with 2 homes that were attached to it also burned

Few more shots of the fire. Folks, I know times are tough but this is another example of why you do not lay off firemen. Reading's staffing is 2 per rig and thats it. The initial alarm brought 10-12 guys to the scene, 12 guys for a Fully Involved 51,000 square foot building. The FD did a damn good job in keeping the fire from taking anymore homes and possibly, even the block. Yes, Reading did call in outside help but regardless, Firemen should not be laid off. Period..

Hey everyone,

This was taken at a place for kids called BOUNCE-U in Annville PA. The place is an old hanger that was converted and has HUGE bounce slides, courses, you name it. Great place to take a kid if you need to wear him down for a nap. Very reasonably priced as well. This was Wyatt's first visit and as you can tell, he loved every minute. I just upgraded to the D3000 for Nikon and was practicing with it here.

Hey Everyone,

On this date, The Lancaster Bureau Of Fire was dispatched for a reported building on fire in the 300 block of N Queen Street, in the downtown section of Lancaster City. Units arrived with a working fire with heavy smoke pushing out the front of the building. The building was the Zap Company. A company that sold vintage clothes(Brad Myers bought some of his clothes here) just kidding pal. The company also supplied clothes to the show "That 70's show" and also to the movie "Titantic" My company was dispatched on the general alarm with our ladder truck. I arrived on scene about 45 mins into the incident as I waited for my wife to get home to be with our son

This is looking S on Queen Street From Lemon Street. The engine is Lancaster City Reserve Engine 6 laying a supply line to Lafayette Fire Company Truck 6-3 in the front of the building.

This is Truck 6-3 and the other ladder truck is Lancaster City Truck 6-4-2. At the height of the fire, 3 Tower Ladders a 1 straight stick ladder truck were flowing water onto the fire. A total of 7 trucks were on the scene

And this is what I was greeted with. Now this is only midblock of the building.

This is the back side of the building on Christian Street. The building was a very long and narrow block long. There was not alot of room to get rigs back in here.

Back out on the Queen Street side again. The engine is Lancaster City Engine 3.

Things are starting to get rather ugly back here.

At this point, City Engine 2 which was back here on Christian Street suffered as what can be described as a cathostrophic mechanical failure. Engine 2's muffler intake and air intake took a direct hit from a master stream device which compleatley shut down the engine. The deck gun which is flowing is only being supplied by hydrant pressure and that's it.

Let's just say this officer did not leave for awhile

And on top of it, it started to snow. In the 21 years I have been in the fire service. I cannot ever a recall a fire of such magnitude in the city. For what they had when they arrived, they did a hell of a job keeping it to the main fire building. The city only had 9 firefighters on duty that night including the shift commander. They had there hands full untill the arrival of the county rigs and also off duty members coming in on the recall. My department cleared around 1230 AM the next morning. City units remained on the scene all night and well into the next day.

On 1/3 at 1942 hours. Rheems Fire Department and mutual aide departments were dispatched for a house on fire. My department transferred about 15 minutes into it. Alot of smoke when I arrived.

At 0445, my department was dispatched for a first due house fire with people trapped. Units arrived with a working fire and 3 people on a porch roof. Crews assisted in getting the people down and getting a knock on the fire. I was in the shower getting ready for work so I was late for this one. For those wondering, yes the police cruiser is blocked in. One of these days they will learn not to park so close..

On 12/24, my department was first arriving for a working house fire assisting another department. Blogger messed up the order again, This is the front of the house as crews are wrapping up

Shortly after I arrived, the additional on dispatch was given that a neighbor across the street saw smoke pushing from the attic vents and the windows were black. Good indication there was a fire. I had Wyatt with me on this one and he sat at the Command Post while I took some photos

Hey Everyone,

The more I read about what the mayor in Harrisburg is trying to do to the Fire Department just pisses me off more and more.

The idiot mayor is attempting to layoff 10-15 firefighters and shut down a firehouse in the downtown section of Harrisburg and sell two pieces of fire apparatus. YET the mayor in all her infinite wisdom has stated that response times will not be affected but she wants to boost her staff while slashing the FD???!?!?! Seriously?!?!

This after the fact of a tragic fire in the city where five lives were lost and she is intent on slashing her "volunteer" fire department as she puts it. Yes, the Harrisburg Mayor is that stupid she called a career department volunteer.

My own opinon as to why she wants to shut down this particular firehouse?? When she was elected, she lost big time in that district. So her wanting to do that is nothing more then political retribution.

Folks, I understand that times are tough and that cuts have to be made. Public Safety is NOT an area that should be cut, but yet time and time again it is one of the VERY FIRST to hit the chopping block. As I said, the mayor wants to increase her staff budget by a large sum of $$(I do not know the exact amount) and also her staff. The mayor also wants to buy a $6,000 camera just so she can take pictures of her at events and with her "constituients"

Does that sound like responsible government to you??

Does that sound like someone who is responsible and capable to lead a city??

I did not think so...

The Harrisburg Bureau Of Fire is one of the most well trained and one of the best departments in Pennsylvania. Some people may think that all their local FD does is sit around and wait for a call. They also do Medical Calls, Inspections, Fire Preventions, Trainings just to name a few. Harrisburg is also a member of PA USTF1 which is a urban search and rescue team and was one of the teams activated to respond to the attacks at Ground Zero on 9/11.

The mayor is basing all this on her "consulting" firm that she spent a large sum of $$ on to help Harrisburg get out of their mony problem. This firm who has NO experts on their staff in the fire service and have no experiance in the fire service are deciding what's best for the public's safety.

Does not really make sense to me. Would you rather have people who are not from the area and have no clue what life is like in your town base a desicion like that without a clue as to what they are talking about??

Folks, if you have a situation like this in your town.... Layoff's and shutting a firehouse are NOT the way to go, demand to your leaders that they look for cuts elsewhere..

Do you really want to take a chance with your family if a firehouse is shutdown?? I know I would not..

Ok, I normally don't go off on a political tangent but I needed to vent..

General Alarm...

This past Friday Night, Lancaster City Bureau of fire was dispatched for a reported house on fire in the Cabbage Hill Section of Lancaster City. First arriving Engine 2 from Station 6 up on the hill reported heavy fire visible from the rear in the middle of a row. Top photo is the City Fire Shift Commander buggy and reserve Engine 5 acting Truck 2

Reserve Engine 6 acting Truck 1. Both of Lancaster City's trucks are out of service and the last two reserves have been pressed into front line service. County Engine and Rescue from the Lancaster Township Fire Department are staged behind the engine.

Two old friends of mine, one is the chief of Willow Street Fire Company and the other one is a Captain on C shift. Both great guys and both great firemen..

Hey all,

The photo is from a house fire my department assisted on this past Monday night. We were dispatched and the additional info was a reported fire in the kitchen. A chief officer from the department we were assisting arrived with fire showing from 3 sides of the house. After the investigation, the cause was unattended cooking.

Anyhow, as most of you know about the poor choice some jackwagon from Georgia made about photographing a deceased body at a accident scene and then getting the bright idea of showing it around to his buddies and unfortunatly, the video made it back to the parents of the victim.

My own thoughts about fireground photography and this moron. If he would have been a member at my firehouse, he would have received a blanket party back at the station(You have to be a fireman to understand what I mean) and most likely, would have been looking for a new station to be a member at. There is no excuse for what he did and I can't fathom as to why he would WANT to in the first place?!? I've been in the fire service for almost 21 years and those calls with deceased subjects are calls you want to forgot about. I will never take pictures of any deceased or anyone who is a patient from a vehicle accident or any distraught people at a incident scene. I never have and I never will. It's just not right to do that and it's just common sense.

The main purpose of taking photos on the fireground, is to record history. To use the photos as training and for investigation. If done correctly, it is a great tool to learn.

If you ever get the chance, go to Bradley Myers Photography Blog which is linked to my blog. Great photographer, fireman and friend. Brad is a career fireman in Harrisburg and I know his views are pretty much the same as mine. Look through any of his fire photos or any of mine and you will not find one photo of a victim, patient, distraught person at all.

Hey all,

These are photos of a fire I took in yesterday. I was at our firehouse when I heard the call get dispatched. I walked into the watchroom to listen and heard the EMS unit dispatched reporting heavy smoke showing from a mile out and arrived with heavy fire from the corner of the house. So I headed out with the camera. I arrived within 10 minutes of the call dispatched and this is what it looked it.

Hey all,

Yes I know it's been quite awhile since I posted. I took these this past Sunday. Wyatt wanted to visit Hershey Chocolate World and he and I were leaving there when I heard the call go out. For those that are familiar with Hershey, we could see the header by the Derry Township Police Station. I'd say we were about 15-16 miles away at that point. Photos are about 25 minutes into the incident.

Top photo is my little boy watching operations. The photographer that is standing with him is the photographer of the department who was running the incident. She's also a good friend and coworker. She watched him for a few so I could get some scene shots. He was also helping to hand out water to the guys that came over.

The second photo is of a Junior Fireman watching Dauphin County Truck 88 back into position.

My first wedding...

Hey all,

Yes I have expanded to photographing weddings now! Actually, a buddy of mine that I work with had his original photographer back out and left him in a jam, so he asked me If I would help him out to which I did. It was a long and HOT day. The wedding took place behind the fire station in which he is a captain at.

This is a photo of the ring bearers and the bride and her father walking down the path to the rest of us. I scouted the location earlier before the guests arrived and found a spot behind some trees where I could have a great vantage point and be able to capture the faces and reactions and emotions the bridge and groom were having. As of right now, I am still editing and processing all the photos as I shot over 1,400. It was fun to do it though..

Hey everyone,

These are photos taken from a multiple alarm row home fire in North York Borough. Photos are about 90 minutes into it when I first found out about the fire. I heard fire equipment from Lancaster being dispatched into York so I got curious and saw they had just struck the 4th alarm. So I took a ride over and the bottom shot is what it looked like when I arrived.

Don't worry folks, I am still around. I have been working a ton lately which leaves me little time to do anything else. With what free time I do get, I like to spend it with my wife and boy. I've been checking out all your blogs, I may not comment but I make it a point to visit at least once a day.

Hey everyone,

I took these on Tuesday. We had some pretty nasty thunderstorms roll through our area. My company was dispatched to assist on a working townhouse fire. I normally don't go out to photograph in this type of weather, but where the fire was at was litteraly 2 minutes down the road from me. This was one of the many reported fires that hit the area within a few hours. I have to admit, the NIKON held up pretty well in the rain..

Photos taken yesterday at a reported building fire at a feed mill in the village of Rheems. Police Department arrived with a working fire in a feedbin with 5 tons of grain product involved. The fire department arrived with just smoldering product in the bin. The incident was placed under control just as I arrived, but I stuck around and shot some scene photos.

Here are some more photos from the event I went to in Carlisle and the one in Lancaster. When I was at the event in Lancaster, I started chatting with one of the reenactors about the event and I asked him what got him interested in doing it. He said "I have friends who serve and I do this in tribute to them. The most important reason that I do this, is so people never forget."

This is a photo I took on Sunday at a WWII Re enactment held at the Lancaster Historical Society just west of Lancaster City. It is like the Army Heritage Days at Carlisle but on a smaller scale. It was my first visit to it and was pretty impressed overall.

Hey Everyone,

This past Saturday I travelled to Carlise for the annual Army Heritage Days and to do some shooting with Brad and Shane Myers which is always a pleasure. Weather was good which is always a plus. The top photo is a member of the 82nd airborne(Brad correct me If I am wrong) coming in for a landing. The second photo is a snipers nest in a trench that you could walk through, that was pretty cool.

Of course, I save the best for last. The bottom photo is none other then Brad Myers himself, lining up to take another great photograph of solders getting inspected.

Brad, always a great time my friend. I would like to set up a date with you sometime and go out to Ship and photograph their rigs sometime.

Kinzer Fire Company Engine 4-5-2, I believe it is a 2007 Pierce all wheel drive engine

The cutest little boy in the world. Yes I'm biased...

Another one of my favorite macks. The Lampeter Fire Company Engine 5-4-3, a 1969 CF Mack. This engine did service with a fire company in Delaware County, however for the life of me I cannot remember who it was. This engine used to be white at one time.

New Arrival...Sort of...

Hey Everyone,

On April 18th, I travaled over to York County to see an old friend of mine I have not seen in awhile. He is a member of the York Township Fire Department. Station 19. I also wanted to see their new ladder truck. They recently purchased a 2003 95 FT Seagrave Aerial Scope from the Elizabethtown Fire Department here in Lancaster County. The first two photos are of the tower in action when it was Truck 7-4 here in Lancaster. The bottom photo is of the truck after getting relettered and is now known as Truck 19.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to Brian Bastinelli, of Brian Basitnelli Photography and a member of the famous uptown firehouse, Harrisburg Tower 2 B platoon with Brad Myers, is also a member here at York Township and was kind enough to pull the truck out for me so I could get a few shots. Thanks Brian!

I would have had some photos of my department but as I was walking up, we were dispatched for an automatic fire alarm and they left to run that. So I decided to get some photos of the other departments that were there training. Now that the weather is getting better, many departments are starting to take advantage of it.

Mascot's and Baseball...

Hey everyone,

I hope your week has been good. These were taken at the Lancaster Barnstormers FanFest 2010 at Clipper Stadium. It's a free event with free food and other acitivites and this year, they were going to be playing the Camden Riversharks in a exhibiton game for free.

Hey, free is good so I took Wyatt down to the ballpark which is only about 10 minutes from my house. The first mascot Wyatt see's is Cylo from the Barnstormers. He then posed with the Camden RiverShark Mascot. I think that one was his favorite.

He then posed with a bear. After Wyatt was done, we started to walk to the playground when they announced that due to field conditions. The game was cancelled but they were going to hold batting practice. They were allowing fans down onto the field so I took Wyatt down and let him run for a little bit.

I tried to get him to look at me in the photo with the scoreboard but something else had his attention. I am not really sure what the fasination was with the Storming Red display in the outfield but for some reason he liked it.

The weather then got really crappy so we left. We'll be back soon enough when the weather gets warm and we can see some games.

One being from the Lancaster County Rescue TaskForce and the other from Harrisburg Bureau Of Fire Department(I would assume PATF1?? Brad or Brian, feel free to correct me If that is not correct) There was a concern there were people possibly trapped who were on the sidewalk when the collapse occured. Fortunatly, there was nobody found.

This photo is one of the task force team members reviewing a diagram of the overall incident scene on which buildings were evacuated.

One of the task force team members monitoring the building with a transit. Basically, my understanding of the device. It is like a scope, you set the device to mark a certain section of the building with crosshairs and you monitor to see if there is any movement. These type of calls are very long and can be manpower intensvive, especially if there is a life hazard issue. The biggest concern is the safety to the first responders and the public. The second concern is to be aware of the possiblity of a secondary collapse. The decision was made at the scene that the building needed to be brought down in a controlled manner for everyone's safety.

Thanks to a friend of mine who works in the County Engineers Office, he was able to get me roof top access so I could shoot some aerial shots of the scene. This is 7 stories up, looking towards the north of the city.

Here is another aerial shot. If you look to the right, next to the Village NightClub on Water Street, is the back of the former Public Safety building which was shared by the city police and fire departments. This used to be Fire Station 5 which was Fire Headquarters at the time.

Structure Collapse in Lancaster City...

The top photo is looking south on Queen Street Towards the collapse site. The bus you see is an RRTA Bus that was heading north on Queen Street as the collapse happened. The driver saw the building collapsing and tried to veer away from the debris. Ten Passengers were on the bus, fortunatley all had minor injuries.

The next photo is taken on Chestnut Street just before the intersection of Queen Street looking east. The building was vacant and I believe was in the process of being renovated.

This photo is of Rescue 6-5 from the Millersville Fire Company. They are part of the Lancaster County Rescue TaskForce and are specialists in Building Collapse.

This is a photo of the Lancaster City Fire Department Command Post. Battalion Chief 2 Brian Klugh is the incident commander being assisted by Chief 1 Tim Gregg, who is the chief of the department.

This is the crew from City Engine 1 who is in the staging area at this time awaiting for an assignment.

I will continue more with this incident tomorrow. As of this time, the remainder of the building is being demolished..

Great weather we're having huh?? I hate rain and fog!

Anyway, this was taken yesterday at a reported building fire assisting another department with our tower. The call turned out to be minor in nature as it was an electrical issue. The first photo is our Captain and two of our crew members from the tower and the bottom photo is of East Petersburg Fire Company new Engine 2-3-1 sitting on a hydrant in case a water supply was needed.

Lebanon Structure Fire...

Hey Everyone,

Here are some more photos from the fire in Lebanon County. The first two are apparatus shots that I took as I was leaving. The 3rd photo was an overall scene shot and the last two are firefighters opening up the wall to find hidden fire and to extinguish it.

I've never intended for this to become a Emergency Services Photo Blog so to speak. My goal as Brad Myers has stated on his posts, is not to glorify the diaster or emergency but to show the general public the dangers and hazards the FD faces on a daily basis.

Real quick today. Photos taken from a multiple alarm fire in the town of Annville in Lebanon County.

Here is the story on the fire;

Lebanon County Box 5-01 sent companies to 125 W. Main Street in Annville Township for a reported structure fire around 1415 hours. Annville Chief 5 arrived with heavy fire showing from a 3 story, occupied, apartments over a flower shop. There were also reports of explosions from the building. First-in companies mads an aggressive stance on the fire which heavily involved the second floor and roof of side B. Additional alarms were requested bringing in companies from throughout Lebanon and parts of Dauphin County to the scene. Unusual April temperatures hovered around 90 degress taking a toll on manpower. The fire was placed under control in about an 1.5 hours and units remained on the scene for extensive overhaul and investigation. 2 firefighters suffered injuries were transported to local hospitals to be treated.

Hello everyone,

Yes I am back. Before I post about the fire, I would like to address one thing. I've gotten emails and messages from people who follow my blog that keep asking me why the lack of activity lately and am I going to continue. While I appreciate the kind words, there is only one person who is a fellow blogger but also a good friend to me who knows what it is going on with me and no disrespect to anyone, but I am going to keep it that way. And to answer part of the question, Yes I will be continuing the blog for as long as possible..

Now, about the fire. The top photo is crew members from Lancaster City Engine 2 and Engine 3 spraying down the reminants of what was burning to make sure there won't be a rekindle of any fire. The bottom photo is of Lancaster City Engine 2 and Truck 1 on the front side of the building.

Reported House Fire In Lancaster City...

Hey Everyone,

Hope your day is well. This was taken yesterday at a reported house fire in the southeast section of Lancaster City. Initial reports were fire to the rear of the house with multiple calls being received. So I grabbed the camera and started that direction. The Battalion Chief reported heavy smoke from a few blocks out and arrived with heavy fire to the rear in a large pile of garbage up against the house. By the time I arrived, crews were in a overhaul stage so I shot some scene photos and said hello to a few of the guys I know that work for the city.

The fifth photo was taken in Steelton, just south of Harrisburg. They had the rigs parked across the street and my son wanted to see them. So I found a place to park and we were checking them out. I saw the church in the background behind the firehouse and thought that would be a cool photo.

Hello,

This was taken from a fire Tuesday morning. I was at the firehouse when we heard the Police Department being advised of a house fire. So we headed out, I ran out to my vehicle and started that way and our Tower was soon dispatched and on the street. The department we were assisting arrived with smoke showing and a working basement fire. The truck company arrived and made the basement and had the fire knocked down with a water can before the engine had the line stretched down.

The rest of the photos show other fireground tasks going on. As I was pulling into the block is when our truck called the fire knocked down...

And enginemen say Truckmen are not smart...

This is more from the fire the other night. It was a cabinet shop that burned. First arriving crews were able to contain the fire to the shop and prevented it from spreading to a barn that appeared to be attached to the shop, At least from my vantage point thats how it looked.

This was taken just a few hours ago at a building fire that I heard go out around 2240 Hours. On my days off, I typically stay up later(all those years of second shift) and heard the dispatch and soon as they told the fire chief that was responding they were getting multiple calls. I grabbed my sneakers and headed out the door.

This was one of two nurse tankers at the fire scene. I was talking to a old friend who I went to high school with and I glanced up and saw the moon and thought that be a cool shot to take.

Hope your week has been going good. Since I have had a major case of photographers block lately. I decided to take a cue from Haney at Outskirts of Surburbia and go look for old firehouses and post photos of them. The two photos I took today are of the old Salunga Fire Company(7-12) and the old Landisville Fire Company(7-7). Both departments were just about a mile apart from each other and they have merged to become one department. For some reason, I have no idea why I did not take a photo of the station they are in now. Old age setting in I guess..

Salunga's old station, I am not really sure what it is used for now. The Landisville Station is now a corvette dealership as you can tell.

Yes I am still around. Somethings have been going on that have prevented me from doing any kind of shooting(photos that is) and within the past few days, I've been able to get out a little bit.

These photos were taken yesterday, Wyatt and I were out running errands for the boss when I heard on the scanner units being dispatched on a second alarm assignment for a working barn fire. Wyatt and I happened to be on that side of town so we headed that way. First arriving units made a good knock on the bulk of the fire.

I used a new filter that I downloaded for a test run to see if I like it and I used it on these photos. Let me know what you think..

Hey Everyone,

I know, I really need to get out and start shooting some new stuff. Recent events have prevented me from doing that, but I hope to soon. So, another one from the archives..

This is the PFD(Philadelphia Fire Department), along with Local and Federal Law Enforcement vehicles outside Citizens Bank Ballpark. During the ballgame I was attending(Phillies won by the way) I was on the 4th level on the 10th Ave near Patterson(Lincoln Financial Side If your at the Phillies Ballpark) when I hear some one say, "Hey, the FD is here." Well, that perks my attention so I take a walk around and lo and behold, there is Engine 49 and Ladder 27 sitting on the street. Along with the Homeland Security Vehicle and the Philadelphia Police Department. I figured out quickly what was going on once I saw the male in the green padded suit walking by himself towards other officers.

This was one of the last photos I was able to shoot before Stadium Security cleared everyone away from the ramps and the concourse. So I said to the one security guard "Hey, whats going on?" He proceeds to say it's prep work for the arrival of the Vice President(Who was at the game).

Silly Security Guard.

I know Enginemen are not as smart as us Truckmen(If your in the FD, you understand, if not, it's a friendly joke) but I know for a fact, no enginemen would drop about 500 feet of 5 inch supply line on a hot humid July night in the middle of the street for "prep" work.

As it turns out, it was a reported "suspicious" package that turned out to be harmless..

Not much to say today. This photo was taken last summer, 2 days before July 4th. If any of you have ever been to Lancaster County. I am sure you have been down the "famous" tourist strip, home of Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park, Rockvale Square Outlets, etc..

Well, this is what the highway looks like when a tractor trailer gets involved in a accident and rips its saddle tank open and spills diseal fuel all over the place. It is quite the mess.

Car Fire Well Involved....

Hope your week is going well. I am now on my two days off. I may take my son up to the Harrisburg Farm Show that is going on. I never been there in my life but I heard it is a good time.

I was on my way home with dinner last night when I heard this car fire being dispatched. I was not too far away so I decided to start heading that direction. I heard the fire chief arrived with a well involved vehicle. I arrived right behind the first due engine company. The photos are actually in reverse order. The bottom photo I shot from my vehicle as I was heading up the driveway and the other two I snapped as I was walking up to the vehicle.

This is a photo of the watchroom or the watch area at the quarters of E45 and L14 in Philadelphia. This is one of the most important areas of the firehouse. A member is required to sit here and turn out the companies as alarms are received, answer the phone and deal with citizens that may happen to stroll into the firehouse looking for assistance.

Both companies were out on a run at this particular moment the photo was taken.

I know I normally don't post on Saturday, but I wanted to try and get some posts in. I think I corrected my blogger problem at the moment. Anyway, this was taken last night at a 2nd alarm house fire. I was at a going away party for one of our guys at the firehouse who is getting redeployed back to IRAQ. When the initial alarm came in, I did not head down till they hit the second alarm. Of course at that time, everyone was yelling at me to go get photos. So I ran down and then came back and filled everyone in...

As I was leaving, my department was dispatched for a chimney fire. So I decided to head to the call before I headed home. NOT a fun time in about 40-50 mph COLD winds that we had. I think this was the coldest weather I ever shot photos in and the NIKON worked like a champ.

Fire in Boston.......Market

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the late post. This is my weekend to work and I did not get a chance to get these photos ready last night. These were taken yesterday at the Boston Market Restaurant. Initial reports were smoke pushing from the building. First arriving units found a slight smoke condition with a small fire in the walls. I had Wyatt with me as we were on our way home from me picking him up at school, so we swung in quick and I shot some photos.

Sorry for the late post today. Been a busy morning and still busy so I don't have a lot of time. Photos were taken last night. I was up watching a movie(could not sleep) I heard a chimney fire getting dispatched and a minute later was upgraded to a full structure assignment, report of fire in the second floor. So being that I could not sleep, I decided to take a ride down. When I got there, they still had some smoke pushing out but were getting things under control. So I stayed for about 15-20 minutes and left. Waaaaay too cold for my taste.

I think I'm going to use the method of not going out in subfreezing temps on overnight calls... Let the younger guys do it...

Every year they do a "home for the holidays" theme. I took Wyatt last year and I took him again this year. This photo was taken as we walked out of the railroad educational center. I shot it manually but I don't remember what settings I had. When I was doing editing on the photos, I thought black and white would look good for this one.

My attempt at Photoshop...

Hey Everyone,

Hope your week is good. Thank god it is Friday. So this is my attempt at photoshop. The real basic skills I think I am ok at but when you try and do the Brad Myers/Brian Bastinelli photoshop ADVANCED level..I still need lots of practice on.

This is actually a model of the Philadelphia Fire Department Fire Boat 2. I was trying to recreate a look from the 70's during Philly's war years. The model is actually on a display stand with the photo in the background.

I cropped in as much as I could but still had some of the stand exposed. So I tried to add the water in the areas where the stand was and tried to blend it together but it did not go as well as I planned.

I really did not have anything else today, so I thought I would throw this out there and see what you good people in blogger world really think.

If you were curious as to how I got the idea, Brian Bastinelli had a photograph of a piece of fire apparatus that actually turned out to be a toy. Looking at the photo right away, you could not tell. That's what I was trying for, I'll need to keep practicing some more...

Hope your week is going well. Today is my Friday at work and off the weekend!! Woohoo!! I'm taking Wyatt to the Strasburg Railroad Museum on Saturday to meet Santa and to see there displays they put on for Christmas. My wife has to work, so I am looking forward to doing that.

This is another photo from the fire back in September. This is one of the Captains from Eden Fire Company giving a report to the Deputy Chief from Eden Fire Company who was the incident commander for this fire.

Getting the roof...

Hey Everyone,

These are some photos taken from an Industrial Building Fire my department assisted on back in September. The first photo is of my truck, Truck 6-7 setting up to the roof along with Truck 2-3(East Petersburg) and an engine from the department we were assisting, Engine 2-11-3(Southern Manheim TWP)

The second photo shows where the fire was. The facility we were at has a on site fire brigade and they are one of the better ones in the area. We usually know if we get a call for this business, we have a job.

The third photo is of the Lancaster City Fire Department Engine 1 and members from Eden Fire Company acting as the rapid intervention team relocating to another part of the fire building.

Hey everyone,

Hope you are having a good week. I took this photo near the train yard I was at the other day. I was standing in the parking lot of Clipper Stadium when I took the photo. It is of the old Lancaster Arts Hotel right along Harrisburg Ave just before you get into the city.

On a seperate note, I want to extend my sympathies to my friends in the Harrisburg Bureau Of Fire on the loss of one of their long time volunteers.

Hey Everyone,

Hope you are having a great week. These were taken this past summer along Front Street by the Harvey Taylor Memorial Bridge. Wyatt and I were attending the KAPONA festival and were taking a walk when he noticed the series of statues. I believe it is actually a tribute or a memorial for PENN DOT workers that were killed on the job. The first thing he spots is the dump truck. He walks over and says hi to the little boy holding the truck. He kind of stands there for a moment checking things out and then decides he wants to play on the truck.

He kept wanting to leave with it till I had to explain to him that it was not real. He still had fun though..

Fire in Da' Burg...My favorite fire photos from the year...

Hey Everyone,

Hope your week is going well. I cannot believe it is December already!

Ok, before I talk about the photos. Has anyone else been having problems with blogger?? Everytime I go to do a scheduled post, when I check the blog it shows it reverted back to draft. This morning, someone left me a comment and it shows 0 Comments initially but if you click on the post, the comment is there??

Any advice, suggestions???

Now to the photos, these were taken back in March of this year. I had buffed one fire in the city at the old Spot's restaurant on 2nd street in the downtown. As I was leaving the city, I hear Harrisburg Wagon 3 go available on my scanner. The dispatcher states for "Wagon 3, standby and prepare to copy" So I kind of pulled off to the side of the road, The box was then struck for a house fire on S 13th street in the 100 block with multiple calls being received. I was right at S 13th street, so I made a left turn and away I went.

I arrived right behind Harrisburg Tower 1 after parking well out of the way(Golden rule of fire photography, Don't get blocked in and in the way) and walked up and shot some photos. Out of all the fire photos I have taken this year, these seem to be my favorite ones. I honestly don't know why.

I don't know if it was because I got there early enough and was able to get some decent shots, I just think these are my best photos of the year. Don't worry, I divide my fire photos and family photos. I'll post my favorite family photos down the road.

Waiting for the engine and get well wishes for an old friend

Hey Everyone,

Hope your weekend was good. This was taken from Engine 45 and Ladder 14's firehouse in Philly. The Engine just went out on a medical run when we arrived. Standing in the back of the house, I thought it would be cool to take the shot. I think it turned out ok with post processing but I think I could have done better.

Now for the get well wishes..

A great friend of mine who is a Captain with Lancaster City Bureau Of Fire, was seriously injured this past Friday when he fell off the turntable off of Lancaster City Truck 2. He suffered 8 broken ribs, fractured a thoracic vertebre, bruised a kidney and had a lung collapse. He initially did not remember the accident. I went right to the Hospital Friday night after his wife called me and told me it was him, he was starting to remember what happened and I stopped in to see him Saturday night and he was doing a little better. Still in alot of pain though(8 broken ribs I can imagine..)

So to my buddy Kenny Barton, Get well soon brother and hope to hear you riding the truck again soon!

Stepping into a whole new world....

Hey Everyone,

Hope you had a great thanksgiving! I had to work. We had the usual calls for oven fires and for fights that family members picked up from last year's thanksgiving. Oh well.

This was taken at my wife's cousin's wedding a few weeks ago. The wedding was held outdoors and this is the happy couple walking outside of the tent for the first time as husband and wife. I'll be the first to admit that I don't have the talent or knowledge on how to shoot a wedding, for that go to Brian Bastinelli's blog. I thought I would try and see how I do. Hey you have to start somewhere right??

If you are one of the crazy people that likes to go shopping on black friday, more power to you. Just stay safe and have a great weekend!

First Due Apartment Fire...

Hello Everyone,

Hope you had a great weekend. This photo was taken yesterday morning at a apartment comcplex in my department's first due. I could not sleep and decided to get up a little early and grab a shower and head to work. I got done getting ready and saw my phone was flashing. I checked and had a text page for the apartment fire. So I checked our webcad page(It is a page that you can go to and it shows all the incidents occuring in Lancaster County. http://www.lcwc.co.lancaster.pa.us/ and click on live incident status if you are interested) I saw the event and saw they had a transfer engine started to our station. As I am watching, the webcad refreshes itself and it went from a first alarm to a second alarm.

So I quickly packed my lunch for work and headed out the door. By the time I got there, the fire was knocked and companies were doing overhaul. I shot some scene photos and then headed off to work.

Summer photos from Harrisburg...

Hey Everyone,

Hope you are having a good week. This is my long weekend to work UGH. Oh well.

These were taken this past summer, well 3 were and one was taken last year. The 3rd one was when Wyatt had just turned about 13 months old, I took him up to the annual Fire Expo in Harrisburg and this was his first ever photo with a fire truck. I saw Tower 2 in the parking lot and decided to take his picture. The other photos were from this year when we went to the Kapona Festival. Wyatt is sitting on Tower 2 in the famed uptown firehouse and then we stopped by Station 6 and Wyatt wanted to pose on the bench in front of the firehouse.

I can't believe how quickly time has flown by. I look at the photo when he was in a stroller to now and can't believe how big he has gotten and how he has developed into his own little personality.

Brad or any of my other Harrisburg friends that read my blog, can you tell me the history or the story behind the plaque hanging on the outside wall behind where Wyatt is sitting??

E50 L12, Northside Philly Cowboys...

Hey Everyone,

Hope things are well. These are photos from E50 and L12 of the PFD from when I was there In Sept.

Very cool house to visit. E50 is one of the busiest engine companies in the city due to their location from what I was told. I was playing around in photoshop with some of the photos and I would like to hear you're thoughts on which photo you like better or think was processed better.

The front side of the house, I had to crop in tighter on the right side. One of the guys I went down with was walking towards the station with his girlfriend and did not hear me yelling for him to stop and he walked right into the shot. Oh well
