Another year has come to a close...

Hey Everyone,

I hope you all have a safe and happy new year. I believe my photography has improved along with my post processing. I have been shooting manuel more, still learning with that. The biggest suprise to me is I have been blogging for almost two years now. I hope to keep going for as long as possible. I did not get to go out on too many photo shoots this year with friends, so Bradley. Shane and Rich..I hope we can do a few next year. I can't believe Wyatt is going to be 3 next year in a few months..Some days I wish he would slow down growing...But I am enjoying every moment..

Have a great new year!

Stepping into a whole new world....

Hey Everyone,

Hope you had a great thanksgiving! I had to work. We had the usual calls for oven fires and for fights that family members picked up from last year's thanksgiving. Oh well.

This was taken at my wife's cousin's wedding a few weeks ago. The wedding was held outdoors and this is the happy couple walking outside of the tent for the first time as husband and wife. I'll be the first to admit that I don't have the talent or knowledge on how to shoot a wedding, for that go to Brian Bastinelli's blog. I thought I would try and see how I do. Hey you have to start somewhere right??

If you are one of the crazy people that likes to go shopping on black friday, more power to you. Just stay safe and have a great weekend!

PS. If you like the photo or don't, Please comment. I would love to know what you think...

Little Late Today...

Hey Everyone,

Sorry a little late today. Had a doctors appointment this morning and of course, they were not running on time. I love how they tell you, you MUST arrive 15 minutes early but they can run almost an hour behind as they did with my appointment today. Oh well..

This was taken down in Beach Haven. The seagull was perched on a dock pole with a lighthouse behind it and I was getting ready to take the photo when the seagull decides to take off. I'm actually turning as I am taking this photo following the bird.

I don't think it came out too bad...

Hope you have a great week!!

The Golden Years...

Hey Everyone,

Sorry I missed the last 2 days. I am getting ready to teach a class at work and was busy trying to wrap things up with that. This was taken at Beach Haven at one of the parks where Wyatt and I were. I thought it was a cool shot with them looking out into the bay.

Have a great day!

Movie Magic in Lititz....

Hey Everyone,

Sorry about yesterday's post. I just forgot! That's what happens when you get to be Brad Myers age..(Just kidding buddy)

On Sunday, I worked some OT then went over to Lititz to meet a friend of mine from their department to get some new photos of their Seagrave Wagon(Engine). While waiting and talking to some of the other guys that I knew, I asked what was going down on Main Street and they said a movie was being flimed by a group of College Students. So I thought that would make for a cool photo op and I took a walk down and snapped some shots.

If you have never been to Lititz, it is home to Wilbur Chocolate and it is a pretty neat little town. Alot of Historical buildings in town as well. Lititz also does the largest fireworks show in this area for July 4th.

Have a great day!

TMI Super Generators on the move...

Hey Everyone,

Hope you are having a good week. I took these photos last night. If you are from my area, you have heard about the two MASSIVE TMI Generators on the road enroute to Three Mile Island. These were taken at it's staging point last night at a local store just south of Willow Street. The top speed on the vehicles that is transporting them are 3 miles per hour. Each Generator and transport will be 150 feet long, 24 feet high and weigh 811 tons. The convoy will weigh more then 3 million pounds and stretches the length of a football field.  At it's current speed of 3 mph. It will take 20 days to reach it's destination. It was quite the the sight to see last night.

Have a good weekend...

Sad Announement...

Hello Everyone,

Back in December, I had posted about a little girl named Hannah who was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer

http://woodysphotography.blogspot.com/2008/12/important-announcement-please-read.html

Her only wish was to get alot of Christmas cards and along with local emergency services and the community. Over 10,000 cards were delivered to her.

This past Tuesday, Hannah's battle came to end and she passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side.

Here is a link to the story;

You may have to copy and paste into your browser..

Please say a prayer for Hannah and her family.

I've said this before, when you think everything in life sucks right now and you take a look at what this little girl and her family had to endure over the past several months, Life really is not that bad is it?

Take Care,

Above the clouds...

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for no post yesterday. I had to get to bed early to take Wyatt to School and then I had to go to School for work, so it was a pretty long day.

This was taken this past Saturday at the 20th Annual Make A Wish Convoy held down here in Lancaster at Burle Industries. It is a wonderfull wonderfull charity held for kids and one that is worthy of support.

Along with trucks, many pieces of fire apparatus take place in the parade as well. This photo is of the platform of Elizabethtown Fire Department Truck 7-4 set up in the parking lot before the departure of the parade.

Have a great day!

Downtown Lancaster...

Hey everyone,

Hope your enjoying your Black Friday. Today's photos were taken just a few hours ago in Downtown Lancaster City. I decided to head into town and take a walk around the square and shoot some things.

The first one is on top of the Prince Street parking garage looking NW from the center of town. That section of the city is probably the nicest part of the whole city to live in.

Photo 2 is of the Greist Building, currently the tallest "High Rise" in the city. Nothing like what my Harrisburg friends are used to though. I think it's only 8 stories.

Photo 3 is of a streetcar that a group is displaying next to the city police station. Apparantly, some people think it would be a good idea to put tracks down through the city and run street cars/trolly's in the downtown to attract business to the new convention center that's been a big stink for the past 10 years but is now finally being built and almost finished.

I don't think a street car is a good idea. Mainly, because of the traffic volume in the city. The streets are tight enough to begin with. I'm sure that this group though consulted with the most important department in the city to get their input as we all know politicians and people who want to improve things do, and that department would be the Fire Department(Note the tone of sarcasm)

Ok, off my soapbox. I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Wild West...

Hey everyone,

Sticking with this weeks theme. This is a old Wells Fargo wagon that was in the parade. To be honest, I really don't know alot about it. I thought it was pretty cool to photograph so I did.

Hope your week is going well!

Coco Visits Millersville...

Hey everyone,

This week I will be doing a few photos from the annual Millersville Community Parade. I decided to lead off with this photo for my friend, Bradley Myers as he is a diehard Hershey Bears fan. This is the famous Coco the bear, the Hershey Bears Mascot riding in the jumpseat of Millersville Fire Company Engine 6-5-2.

It was a good day for a parade. little chilly but it was fun overall.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Clear for take off...

Hey everyone.

Hope your having a good day. Today's photo is from the runway of the Lancaster Airport. The plane that you see is the plane belonging to VP Canidate Sarah Palin as she was here in Lancaster giving a speech at Clipper Stadium. The plane has just gotten clearence from the tower and is waiting to take off. The same day we had the diaster drill at the airport was the day she was in town. It was kind of cool to see her motorcade pull into the airport. We could not see her at all as obviously, we were not able to get that close.

Have a great day everyone!!

Why I do this....

Hey everyone,

I was asked the other day, why I enjoy fire photography? Do I enjoy taking photos of people at their worst moments?? Do I enjoy seeing things destroyed by fire??

Why I take the photos?? I take the photos to try and show the positive things that firefighters do. A wise fire photographer once told me to try and get your photos to tell a story, to potray the dangers the the FD faces on a call and what could be a routine call could go to hell in a handbasket rather quickly.

With as much bad press as the FD gets at times, I hope that my photos can remind the public that for the one firefighter that is a bad apple, there are hundreds of firefighters who bring honor to the profession and should not get lumped in with the one bad egg.

I do know some fire photographers who I would say, have questionable morals. I've been to accident scenes where there are patients still in a vehicle and there are the photographers right there in the car, sticking their camera in the persons face. I won't do that. I've seen photographers stick their cameras in a vehicle with a deceased person with other family members around. I won't do that.

I have also assisted my local police department at accident scenes with photographing the scene. The only way I would photograph a person in a vehicle if a police officer would ask me to as part of an investigation.

Otherwise, I won't invade a person's privacy by sticking my camera in their face. If that works for some, fine, I prefer not to photograph that way.

I also have given my photos of incidents to departments to use in training. If my photos can help a department see a mistake that was made at a incident and if it helps them prevent it from happening again, then it was worth it.

Since I have started blogging, I have tried to become a more well rounded photographer If you will, by photographing a variety of things. The sky, my son, landscape. I hope it has made me a better photographer. I don't think I am at the level of photography as some of the other great photographers on here. I'll keep trying though. This is why I appreciate the SWF posts, before I would have just brushed that off, but now I really enjoy the photos that are posted by the folks. I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I enjoy yours..

Ok, now for the photos...

I did not have anything planned for today, so I had to pull some from the archives. I've been playing around with this new filter that I've downloaded trying a few different things. I've been really busy with preparing to teach a few classes at work and other projects going on..

Hopefully, I can get out here soon and photograph some new things...

I hope you all have a great weekend!

The 100th Post....

Hey everyone,

Welcome to Post #100!

Thanks to everyone who has visited my blog, left comments and gave me advice on photography. I especially want to thank Brian Bastinelli and Brad Myers for all the photography advice and for getting me interested in blogging. I followed their two blogs for awhile before I decided to venture out on my own.

Now for the photos..

These were taken this past weekend at the annual Columbia bridge bust. Basically, for those of you that are familiar. They shut down the Route 462 bridge between Columbia Borough, Lancaster County and Wrightsville Borough, York County for the day and they have a variety of arts and craft stands set up on the bridge. They also had some photography stands set up.

I did not shoot too many photos as I was there for work with our Field Communications Unit. On a break I went out and shot a few quick photos of the event.

Hope your having a great week!
