More Barn Fire Pictures...

Hello Everyone,

TGIF!! These are some more photos from the barn fire earlier in the week that I photographed. The first photo at the top shows what the barn looked like from the main road before I walked back a VERY long lane.

The second photo shows the water supply in operation. Basically, the tanker from the Neffsville Fire Company is supplying the entire fire scene with water. It is acting as a nurse tanker, meaning that all the other tankers with water, will dump their loads into the red porta-tanks set up on the road to supply the Neffsville tanker, they will then nurse the water up to the scene through the hose lines.

I wanted to make that as easy as possible for the non firefighting folk to understand that.

The other photos are of the Lititz Fire Company Ladder Truck flowing water onto the barn. The fifth photo shows the aftermath of the fire.

The very last photo shows other tankers waiting in line to dump their water.

That is all, I hope you have a great weekend!!

Skywatch...

Happy Skywatch Friday!!

These photos were taken Tuesday morning. I had woke up when I heard a dispatch for a working barn fire about 10 to 12 miles from my residence. My wife and son had already left for the day so I decided to run up with the camera. These photos are of the smoke in the sky from that fire. These were taken when I was about a mile from my house..

Large Barn Fire...

Hey Everyone,
This photo was taken yesterday morning at a large barn fire just outside the historic town of Lititz. This photo is of an old friend of mine who is a Captain with Lititz walking towards the command post. The smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. I live about 10-12 miles from here and when I got about a mile from my house, I could see the header. So I decided to take a run up with the camera. I shot about 100 images before I headed back home to get ready for work.
Time for bed,
Have a great day!
PS. I hope you like the new layout of the blog, I just decided to change it up and I hope you like the photo. I know two of my Harrisburg Fire Department Friends that will..

More from the airshow...

Hello Everyone,

Another photo from the airshow. This was a plane that was getting ready to taxi out to the runway and take off. Unfortunatley, due to time constraints I never had a chance to learn each individual plane and the history about them. So If you know what this plane is, feel free to comment.

That is all for now, time for bed!

Have a great day!

Lancaster Airshow...

Hello all,

Hope you had a great weekend. Photos were taken yesterday at the bi-annual Lancaster Air Show at the Lancaster Airport. Lisa and I took Wyatt up to see it. I had to work OT so we did not get to stay as long as we would have liked. Plus, when you have a two year old you are on his time.

The highlight of the show is the B-17 flying fortress that has always made an appearance. People who attend the airshow do get a chance to ride in the aircraft, however at $425 a pop and to wait at least an hour..ehh no thanks..

Hope you have a great week!

3rd truck to the scene...

Hey Everyone

Hope your week is going well so far. Todays photos were taken from a fire in a annexed section of Lancaster City at a Industrial Building. My departments ladder truck was special called to the scene as they have a working fire in the duct work and the roof area. The first photo is of both the Lancaster City Trucks, Trucks 1 and 2. The bottom photo is of Reserve Engine 6 as the fire went to 2 alarms.

This fire was actually the first time I was ever stopped and got mean looks from people. I was stopped 3 times by security and plant personall(While my department was there and while in my TOG) but that's a story for another day..

Have a great day!!

The 73rd New York Infantry...

Hey Everyone,

Hope you had a good week. It was nice being off of work, but all good things must come to an end. The photo from today is when I went to Gettysburg with my nephews and brother in law and my wife's uncle. It was a good time as I have always enjoyed going to Gettysburg. I just hardly ever get the chance.

Now for a little history about the second fire zouvaes;

Raised in the Bowery of New York City in the summer of 1861, the 73rd New York Infantry was given the monicker of "Second Fire Zouaves". Dressed in a distinctive zouave-style uniform, the 73rd's soldiers appeared different from their counterparts in the "Excelsior Brigade", and they were. The regiment was composed almost entirely of volunteer firemen from New York City and its boroughs, men who enlisted as volunteer soldiers with the assurance that they would still be carried as active firemen on the rolls of volunteer fire departments back home. (The organization of New York City Volunteer Firemen began in 1658 and lasted until 1865, when the control of fire departments in New York was taken over by the city administration.) The regiment went to Washington in October 1861 where it was presented a stand of colors (flags) donated by the fire departments of New York City.

If you never been to Gettysburg. It is definatley worth the trip as I am sure some of my other blogger friends on here would agree..

Have a great week!!
