Requiem For A Fire Department...

Hey Everyone...

I've been in the fire service, going on 19 years of my life. I always had a wish that attending a FD funeral would somehow get easier, but it never does. This weekend I will be attending a funeral for the uncle of the Deputy Chief of my company. His uncle was a life member of a neighboring department and I am going in support of my Deputy Chief, who is also a coworker and a long time friend.

For those in the fire service, you understand. For those that are not, I don't have the time right now to explain our Brotherhood to you, maybe one day in the future..

So with that said, I hope you all have a great weekend. Stay safe and tell your family that you love them. You never know when it will be the time..

Skywatch...

Hi all,

Well I decided to try something new and participate in the Skywatch. I hope this photo counts and If it does not, I apologize and I will change it. This is a photo of a plane coming in for a landing at Philadelphia Airport. I was on my way to the Phillies game and shot this manuel on the bus on I95 doing about 65mph. I know it is not the greatest photo but it's a start.

Hope you like it....and I hope this qualifies...

Charge the line...

Hey all,

Sorry, It's been a crazy past few days and this is the first chance I've had to sit down and post. I actually just got home from work and this will be quick as I have to be back in for a meeting. York City Fire went to decues on a commercial structure around 00:30. Quiet night as usual on the east side of the river.

I wanted to get to the York Arts Festival to check out Brian B's stand but my son was sick all weekend with a 102 fever and a cold. (Sorry Brian) I hope the rest of you got a chance to head over and check things out.

Todays photo, is a space filler. I have not had a chance to head out and do any photographing, with the exception of this fire. This is a crew on the Delta side of the house waiting to open up the line to attack the fire in the attic.

When I had the honor of having dinner with the crew from Tower 2 and Wagon 3, I had asked about what was the largest fire they ever responded to in the City and they answered the Vernon Building fire. The crew got a run and I never got the chance to find out anymore first hand accounts about the fire. So I posted it on centralpafire.com and got to learn a little history and info about the blaze. So If you guys who read my blog were on for that fire. I'd love to hear about it..

(If you can't tell, I always love to listen to war stories about fires)

Stay Safe Everyone..

Have a great week everyone!!

A little help from your friends...

Hey all,

Kind of like the song, "a little help from my friends". Never hurts to have a little help from your friends when you need them. Today's photos are of some of the mutual aide rigs that were on the fire from yesterday.

That's all I have for today. I hope you guys have a great weekend and again, If you get the chance. Head to York to the Arts Festival and see Brian Bastinelli at his stand for some great photography. To my other Harrisburg Buddy, Brad Myers, have a great time in Bristol! Hope it does not rain down there. I want pictures...

It's a job...

Hey everyone.

These are some photos from a fire my department had yesterday. These were taken right in downtown Willow Street. For those familiar with the area. This is just south of Kendiq Square Shopping Center. I was a little late getting there as I had my son and was coming home from my wife's aunt's house when I heard the call given to Police. I was up on Route 30 and could see the header. Fortunatley, no one was hurt. Unfortunatley, the house could not be saved as it was already advancing through the second floor and the roof. The Duty Officer struck the deuces from the firehouse as it's about 2 blocks north of the station.

Hope everyone is doing well...

After the fire...

Hey Everyone,

This photo was taken after a house fire yesterday. Fire was knocked and crews were in the process of overhaul. Of course, when we got the call, I was a little bit out of position. First arriving crews had a working kitchen fire and held the fire to the kitchen. I have to admit, it was a good stop by the hose jockeys. Our Tower was special called after the initial dispatch. This is a photo of my Captain smoking a cigar while taking a breather. I played around with it and changed it to B&W and thought it came out pretty good. I think I'm actually getting pretty good at this photography stuff....

More from the Beach...

Hello,

Here are some more photos from the beach. I wanted to see where the firehouse was and hopefully get some shots of rigs. Unfortunatley, no one was around at all. So I shot photos of the outside of the firehouse and within a two block radius was the ambulance station and the station for the beach patrol, so I shot some photos of their quarters.

Hope you are all having a good week so far!

Beach Party...

Hey Everyone,

Hope your having a good start to your Monday. I know I am because I am on vacation again!!!

These photos were taken down at Beach Haven New Jersey located on Long Beach Island. My wife and inlaws were down all last week. I could not get off the entire week so I went down Wed and came back on Thursday. They came back Friday. It was tough to leave. Beautifull place and I could so relocate down there. While my son and nephews and nieces were napping, I wanted to walk around and get some shots of the area.

These three photos were taken on the side of a local grocery store down there. They had numerous photos of the early years of the town on the side of the building which was pretty cool.

For those of you that don't have any plans this weekend. Brian Bastinelli is having a stand over at the YorkFest Arts Festival where he is selling prints of his photographs. If you want GREAT photography, I would recommend going and checking out his work..

Have a great week everyone!!

Game Time...

Hey everyone,

Hope you all had a good week. Here are a few more shots from the Phils Game. Beautifull Ballpark. Phils did win 4-2 by the way.

Let me know what you guys think of the stadium employee leaning against the rail with the moon in the background. I was walking around the ballpark taking some different shots of things, trying to get some different angles when I looked up and happen to notice the gentleman standing there leaning up against the rail. I thought it looked pretty cool. I realize the moon is not as detailed as some of my other fellow bloggers shots, but I liked the end result.

What do you think???

Enjoy the weekend!!

Pre Game Ceromony...

Hey All,

Sorry for the late post. I just got back from the beach. Believe me I did not want to leave.
Here are some shots from the pregame at the ballgame. It was Robin Roberts Night where they retired his number and inducted him into the Phillies Hall Of Fame. It was pretty cool seeing alot of the ballplayers my dad talked about and seeing the ones I grew up with. For where I was sitting in the ballpark, I was up on the 400 level which is fairly close to nosebleed section. Alot of cropping went into the photos and I don't think they turned out too bad..

As always, please let me know what you think. That's how I improve in this business...

Heading To Philly...

Hey Everyone,

So for a Fathers Day Present, my wife booked me on a bus trip to see the Phils play at home at Citizens Bank. I have never been there before so I was looking forward to it. I did not have to worry about driving, so I had plently of time to relax and enjoy the ride.

When we got close to Philly and I could see the skyline, I decided to try and grab some photos while on the bus, while on 95 doing 60 mph. I don't think they came out too bad and I shot these first 3 photos manuel. Like I said earlier, I did alot of shooting manuel and also automatic, trying alot of stuff with the camera.

Let me know what you guys think....

Some more photos from Philly Tomorrow...

Enjoy the week...

Also, I want to say to Brian B that I hope your feeling soon pal and are not off work for long.

I do have to say one thing though, when the game ended. I got back to the bus and was sitting back relaxing, going through the photos on my camera. This 13 or 14 year old kid in front of me, whined the entire time about being stuck in the parking lot, why can't the bus driver get us out of here, we've been here for 30 minutes and are still in the parking lot, why dont the stupid policeman direct traffic the right way?!

Let me tell you, I was very close to going off on the kid, "Hey Einstein, when you have 40,000 vehicles trying to leave on space onto a 4 lane roadway, guess what?? THERES GONNA BE A TRAFFIC JAM!!!!

If I would have acted like that everytime I went to a ballgame with my dad..I'd got my butt kicked and that would have been the last time Dad took me to a game...

Oh well...

Stay Safe everyone...

The Capital

Hey All,

This will be another brief post as I need to get to bed since I am back to work tomorrow. Ugh..

Anyhow, These are some of the photos that I shot at the capital with my two nephews. They had a great time. You may recoginize one of the photos that is similar to a Bradley Myers Photo. I can assure you it's mine. : )

I had really liked that photo, the one Brad took, and when I have time, I plan on trying to recreate it in Photoshop to see how well or how close I can come to it.

Overall, It's been a pretty good week. Of course today, when I leave my wife's Aunts house to bring Wyatt back home. I had the scanner on and heard a box put out for a working shed fire. Well, long story short. The fire was directly behind my wifes aunts house and I was too far away at that point to turn around and try and get some photos. Oh well..

Saturday, I got to go to a Phillies Game. My lovely wife had booked me on a bus trip to a Phils Game as a Fathers Day Present. I shot almost 800 images at the ballgame. I'll be posting that later this week or maybe tomorrow. I've been spending my freetime going through and cropping, deleting...etc..

My wife had asked me why I took so many photos. Mainly because It was a cool ballpark, Beautifull View of the Philadelphia Skyline. I shot alot of photos manuel and also automatic, I was trying out alot of the features on the camera and gave it a good workout. Overall, for not having a zoom lens and being up in the nosebleed section, I think the photos came out well, but I'll let you be the judge of that. At the end of the 7th inning, I took a walk around the stadium checking things out.

Allright, time for bed...

Stay Safe,

Woody

The Reily...

Hey all,

This will be brief as I gotta hit the road here soon to meet up with Family. These were taken yesterday at the Reily Fire Station AKA the PA Fire Museum. If you have never been here, it is worth the trip up. Especially If you like fire service history. My nephews and son had a good time. Weather was decent in Harrisburg yesterday, had a few interesting encounters with some of the "locals" but that's for another time.

This week or next, I'll be posting some photos from the Capital as thats where we headed to next...

Have a great week!
